Magic Tree House - The Curse Lyrics |
2007 American children's musical Magic Tree House the Musical - The Curse Lyrics
MORGAN Jack? Annie?
JACK & ANNIE Morgan!
MORGAN I don’t understand. Why are you here? Did anyone else see you arrive?
JACK Wait a minute. You didn’t send the Tree House for us?
ANNIE With the Royal Invitation?
JACK To a banquet in Camelot?
MORGAN No. There are no banquets in Camelot any more.
ANNIE What??
JACK Why not?
MORGAN After your last adventure in the Tree House, a dark wizard challenged King Arthur’s throne. There was a terrible battle....
ANNIE Oh, no! Did King Arthur lose the battle?
MORGAN No. He won the battle.... A BATTLE WAGED A VICTORY A JOYOUS CELEBRATION
ALL Hooray!
MORGAN BUT A BITTER, JEALOUS ENEMY IN ANGER AND FRUSTRATION DID CALL UPON HIS WIZARDRY TO CAST AN EVIL SPELL AND ROB THE KINGDOM OF ITS JOY
ANNIE Oh...that’s so mean!
MORGAN WAIT -- THERE’S MORE TO TELL
WITHOUT ITS JOY THE LAND GREW COLD AND GREY NO SUNNY DAYS TO BREAK THE GLOOM NO SPRINGTIME FLOWERS’ SWEET PERFUME NO DANCING, NO LAUGHTER NO HAPPILY EVER AFTER
JACK Really?
MORGAN Oh, yes. ALL STORIES ENDED SADLY GOOD MEN BEHAVED QUITE BADLY
ANNIE That’s terrible!
MORGAN Yes. It was very bad. King Arthur was at a loss.
JACK What did he do?
MORGAN He did what he has always done when he needs help. He asked the advice of his oldest friend.
JACK Merlin!
MORGAN Yes.
MERLIN THREE KNIGHTS MUST GO TO LIFT THE CURSE THE BRAVEST AND THE BEST UNTO THE DREADED OTHERWORLD AND THIS SHALL BE THEIR QUEST:
THERE IS A CAULDRON WAITING THERE FROM WHICH ALL JOY DOES FLOW THESE KNIGHTS MUST OVERCOME THEIR DREAD AND TO THE CAULDRON GO!
JACK Um... excuse me? What were the knights so afraid of?
ANNIE Yeah, what’s so scary about the Otherworld?
MORGAN The Otherworld is a land of mystery, the source of all magic. It is guarded by huge iron gates. No one knows what is on the other side. There are tales of terrible beasts -- monsters, Dragons with fiery breath and razor-sharp teeth....
JACK Got it.
MORGAN AND SO THREE KNIGHTS WERE SENT AT ONCE THE KINGDOM HELD ITS BREATH THE DAYS GREW INTO WEEKS, THEN MONTHS... HAD EACH KNIGHT MET HIS DEATH? SLAIN BY AWESOME MONSTERS? FELLED BY EVIL SPELLS? IMPRISONED BY THEIR ENEMIES IN LONELY DUNGEON CELLS?
KING ARTHUR WHAT HAVE I DONE TO THESE GOOD MEN? WOULD I COULD BRING THEM HOME AGAIN!
MY KINSMEN! MY FRIENDS! WHAT KIND OF RULER SENDS GOOD MEN TO SUCH A FATE? I’LL CALL THEM BACK -- TOO LATE! TOO LATE! TOO LATE!
MERLIN Your majesty....
KING ARTHUR ‘TWAS ON YOUR WORD I BID THEM GO! YOUR TERRIBLE ADVICE! AND SO BEGAN THIS TALE OF WOE! THIS DREADFUL SACRIFICE!
SO NOW BEGONE! I’LL HEAR NO MORE OF CAULDRONS, QUESTS, OR SPELLS!
MERLIN YOUR MAJESTY....
KING ARTHUR NO! DO NOT SPEAK! THERE IS NO MORE TO TELL!
MORGAN Arthur was so angry that he banished Merlin from the realm.
JACK Oh, no!
MORGAN And that is not all...
KING ARTHUR PEOPLE OF CAMELOT, HEAR MY DECREE FROM THIS DAY FORWARD ‘TIS HOW IT SHALL BE THE MAGIC THAT BROUGHT US JOY AND GOOD CHEER NOW BRINGS NOTHING BUT SORROW AND FEAR MAGIC DOOMED US WITH THIS EVIL CURSE A MAGICIAN’S ADVICE HAS MADE THINGS WORSE SO PEOPLE OF CAMELOT, HEAR MY COMMAND FROM THIS DAY FORWARD: ALL MAGIC IS BANNED!
ALL Gasp!
MORGAN And that is why there will be no banquets, No laughter, no magic in Camelot ever again.
